Ahhhhh… Valentine's day. The season of love is upon us. It is the time that we get to show our significant other, family, and even friends how much we adore and care for them.
Cue the age-old, expected gifts: chocolates, teddy bears, fancy dinners, greeting cards…. The normal stuff.
How about flipping V-day on its head and planning your own meat-filled spectacular, right from the comfort of your own home?
I mean, you could make that reservation and drop loads of cash on another nice but boring dinner….
But why go out when you could… not?
Below you will find some fresh, fun ideas on how to throw an epic day of affection right from your own home. Valentine’s day distancing at it’s finest!
We need a spot in your home that can be repurposed into a blank canvas. Balconies are great; but backyards are better.
If you don’t have that option at your home, head over to a local park. Bring a blanket and lay out a few pillows for comfort. You can play some music from your phone or just enjoy the atmosphere!
Nothing says love like some classic roses… Flowers are that one thing you wouldn’t dare be caught without. How about some meaty delicious roses…. Bacon Roses would really set the tone for an amazing day (or night) of love.
1. Head over to the Dollar Store and grab some fake roses so you have the stems. Peel off the petals and keep the stems and green leaves.
2. Lay out 12 strips of bacon (because roses come best in a dozen, right?) and cover liberally with brown sugar. Roll the bacon strip up into a nice rose shape and secure with two toothpicks to create a little “x” stand, to make sure they don’t tip over while baking.
3. Cover a baking sheet with foil and bake at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes.
4. Set the bacon roses into the base of the rose, making sure they are secure. Put the yummy “flowers” into a vase and VOILA!
Don’t forget to pick some wine to pair with your specially curated meaty charcuterie.
We must always start with bubbles. You can never go wrong with bubbles. Avoid the pricey champagne by subbing in prosecco from Italy or Cava from Spain. Make sure you keep this bevvy chilled for optimum enjoyment!
If you prefer wine, make sure you know the pairings in advance. Softer goat cheeses are always good with Rose. White wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay bring vibrant acidity and vivid fruit to the big flavors of meats and cheeses.
Of course, you should never forget that February 14th is a day that can (and should) be celebrated all year long. The Hallmark holiday is fun, but showing your admiration and appreciation is even more special when it’s unexpected. The ideas we have shared with you are perfect for any day of the year!
